Scarborough State Beach, Rhode Island
The weather was gorgeous on Saturday, so I took my girlfriend to Narragansett, Rhode Island to Scarborough State Beach. It was such a nice day, and we had a great time relaxing on the sand, taking in the rays. The water was extremely cold though. This is probably because it is early in the summer, and the hot weather recently came. However, that didn't stop us from heading in the water! Before we headed home, we spent 20 minutes picking up some trash. We noticed that there were a lot of plastic bottles and empty bags of chips. Perhaps the reason there was a lot of this kind of trash is because, believe it or not, there aren't any trash receptacles at this beach! Visitors must take all of their trash home with them. Perhaps we should bring this up to the maintenance people there to get trash cans in the beach to encourage people to throw their own trash away. In addition to finding all of these smaller pieces of trash (which still totaled 3 pounds), we found a broken, old radio (its antennae had snapped, buttons were missing, the cord was broken, and it was filled with sand). This radio was about 5 pounds. All in all, we collected 8 pounds of trash. We had a great time at the beach, and felt like we accomplished something in picking up some trash before we left.

 RMG team at Crane beach
Crane Beach, MA
Today was a first truly nice hot summer day -- perfect weather for a day at the beach. Bunch of people from the office came to express their support and, of course, to have some fun together. Besides picking trash, we played few games of volleyball, just kicked a soccer ball around, flew frisbee, someone made a sand crocodile (you can see it on one of the pictures), kids were just running around enjoying the ocean, the sun and the fresh air. The day was a huge success -- the world has became 72 lbs cleaner! Thank you every one who came!

Another day at Crane beach. You would not believe what sort of nasty things we found in a short run, here is a list: 13 lbs - a bag of random trash, plastic, bottles, ropes, fishing floats 12 lbs - another bag of random trash 40 lbs - a lobster cage, must have ran away and was washed out to the shore (see pictures below),sorry, but this is not where it belongs 24 lbs - a methane tank, it was actually empty, probably fell off (of course accidentally) some boat and was washed off to the shore. 5 lbs - a fishing float total 84lbs! This time we actually bought a Luggage Scale (you can see it on a picture below), which made a measurement a lot more accurate, so I would encourage people to do the same. There were a lot of people that saw us today carrying all these horrible things and they all said thank you to us. We are hopeful that if more people see what's going on, the more will be willing to help -- it does not really take much. Today it actually took us little longer -- 30 minutes for trash picking instead of our regular 15. The rest of the time as usual we spent playing chess, building sand castles, etc... -- what a great way to spend time on a weekend.

Our family had decided to go to the beach on this particular day, and decided to do some cleaning up for a bit. We only had to walk around for fifteen minutes, collecting trash, before we were able to amass about 110 pounds of trash. All of it undecomposable; styrofoam, glass, plastic, and other such items. And yet after this little sector we were able to clean up, there is still much to be done to rid the beach of trash. After we enjoyed ourselves on the beach with interesting activates. Hope you too can have fun and clean up someplace out in the nature like I had.

We are back at the beach. And it's screaming for help! My son and I walked only 1/4 of a mile and gathered combined over 100lbs of trash. It took us no more then 15 minutes. There are some nasty stuff we picked up -- mostly empty plastic and glass bottles, beer/soda cans, random pieces of rope and plastic. We picked up almost full bottle of Lysol disinfectant. And the worse of all, I think, is the styrofoam. The piece I'm carrying on the picture weights more then 30lbs along, and it already began to disintegrate into millions of tiny particles. I'm just wondering what would happen if it was not picked. The most likely answer is -- it would go back to the ocean poisoning the water. Now imaging your self drinking water with styrofoam particles in it and then you'd understand what the fish and the other marine animals might feel like. I'm also wondering what happens to the plastic and glass if it's not picked up. It's also most likely to go into the ground where it's buried for ever. The rest of the day we spent having fun at the beach -- we played chess, flew our frisbee , just sat around doing nothing enjoying magnificent ocean views and sounds.
